Artisans of Ukraine
There is something special about the artisans of this country, and I wanted to feature some of their remarkable creations. Because the situation in Ukraine changes day by day, these items may not be available for purchasing or shipping at the time you read this. Still, I wanted to highlight their artistry as a way of showing support for these talented artisans during a very difficult time.
Ukrainian Peasant Blouse by Vyshyta
See this Folk Art Embroidered Blouse on Etsy I had to include at least one embroidered peasant blouse to show the amazing quality of Ukrainian folk embroidery. I learned an appreciation for Ukrainian folk costumes from my parents, who belonged to a folk dance group based in Chicago that used to perform in authentic costumes. This amazing designer blouse is embroidered with flowers and birds in saffron yellow and forest green. The blouse is available in cotton or linen from Vyshyta, which calls itself a “Ukrainian slow fashion brand for embroidery lovers.”
Ukrainian Vyshyvanka Blouse with Blue Birds
See this Ukrainian Embroidered Blouse on Etsy I couldn’t resist including another gorgeous example of Ukrainian embroidery. I am so glad that the boho peasant blouse trend is still going strong here in the U.S. This blouse is embroidered with luminous blue birds on a black background by the talented hands of Galia Saldan of Lviv, Ukraine.
Ukrainian Hand-Carved Shoulder Bag
See this Ukrainian Hand-Carved Bag on Etsy Carved wood objects are another popular folk craft in Ukraine. But this shoulder bag, hand-carved in Hutsul folk art patterns, takes this craft to a whole other level. I must say I have never seen anything like this bag, hand-carved out of pear wood by ProWoodUkraine.
Handmade Ceramic Tea Mug
See this Embossed Ceramic Mug on Etsy Perfect coffee mugs are hard to find, and this one has been sitting in my Etsy Favorites folder for a couple of years now. I love the warm yellow glaze and the imprints of wildflowers and grasses on the mug’s surface. The mug’s shape, handle size, and organic appearance are all just right. Handmade in several sizes and patterns by Leaf Pottery Shop of Horodenka, a small village in the west of Ukraine.
Ukrainian Folk Embroidery Patterns
See this Ukrainian Embroidery Digital Download on Etsy Although it may be impossible to receive physical items from some shops in Ukraine right now, it is still possible to purchase digital downloads to support individual makers. I chose to feature these embroidery patterns because they are sorted by region of Ukraine! This download is a great anthology of the variety of Ukraine embroidery patterns. From HandyHappyFabrics of Kyiv, Ukraine.
There are literally thousands of artisan products available on Etsy that are similar to the ones profiled here. In fact, Etsy is featuring a collection of items made in Ukraine as a way of showing their support to Ukrainian artisans.

Etsy Under the Sea
Beach season is nearly here, so we decided to take a deep plunge into the Etsy depths and uncover some fabulous sea treasures, handmade by talented artisans right here in the U.S.
As a jewelry designer, I am very impressed by these first two necklaces, which I have been planning to feature for some time now!

This Jellyfish Pendant Necklace with amazonite, aquamarine, and apatite stones was made by Missouri artisan Laurie Van Mondfrans. As she explains on her Etsy site, “A trip to the St. Louis Aquarium was the inspiration for numerous jellyfish pendant necklaces.” We can’t wait to see the others!
Stingray Pendant Necklace by LVMDesigns
See the listing on Etsy at LVMdesigns I am in awe of this stingray pendant, made from Argentium silver, willow creek jasper, and a single yellow sapphire gemstone. It unites the finest modern design and the natural world in the most stunning fashion.

Lighted Jellyfish Mobiles by JoanovArts
See these Jellyfish mobiles on Etsy at JoanovArts Ready for more jellyfish? These amazing mobiles actually light up. Handmade with bohemian flair by Joan Patterson of JoanofArts, using sea urchin shells, battery-powered lights, and extremely long iridescent glass and copper danglers. Perfect to hang out on the porch, 3-season room or anywhere you want to create a beach-themed environment.
Fused Glass Coral Vase by AngelasArtGlass
See this Coral Vase by AngelasArtGlass on Etsy It wouldn’t be an undersea feature without something coral. This sculptural vase, made by artisan Angela Dougherty in vibrant shades of orange and green, is our choice!
We hope you enjoyed this deep dive into ocean-themed art on Etsy. If you have comments on the artisan products featured here, please feel free to leave a comment below!

The Blouse Inspired the Necklace
Design inspiration can come from unlikely places.
I recently made several necklaces that were inspired by floral blouses currently hanging in my closet. The colorful and vibrant prints motivated me to create a trio of necklaces that I can’t wait to share!

A Nordstrom blouse in gorgeous drapey fabric inspired me to create a necklace using rose quartz and pink satin beads and an unusual carved wood bead I have had for some time. The long satin bead is actually from drapery trim I found at Vogue Fabrics in Evanston, IL. Can’t wait to wear them together!
Simply Vera Wang blouse in copper and purple
I love this color combination, especially as found in this splashy floral blouse from Kohls. The top inspired this coordinating amethyst and copper bead necklace:
A fall blouse deserves a fall necklace

This top from Lucky Brand in warm fall colors inspired this fall necklace. I used more drapery trim, handmade polymer clay acorns, and crystal beads.
This is just to show that design inspiration can come from unlikely places, including the clothes you already have. I plan to post more design ideas in the future to inspire your DIY creations!
